Leadership + Partners
Accelerating the creation of great schools will require the support and hard work of a diverse group of stakeholders across Cincinnati. We’re excited to work with Cincinnati Public Schools, the Archdiocese of Cincinnati and charter school authorizers to launch new, high-performing schools and transform existing schools throughout the city, especially in the neighborhoods that need them most.
Chief Executive Officer of Accelerate Great Schools
Patrick Herrel, 32, joined Accelerate Great Schools in July 2015, shortly after the nonprofit fund’s inception in early 2015. Herrel brings to Accelerate Great Schools a passion for education with the goal of creating 4,800 high-performing seats in existing and new great schools throughout Cincinnati in five years.
Prior to joining Accelerate Great Schools, Herrel worked as the vice president of The Mind Trust, where he led efforts to identify, select, and support school leaders and teams to launch autonomous schools throughout Indianapolis. This work included a partnership with Indianapolis Public Schools to launch in-district, empowered schools. Herrel also oversaw the education entrepreneur fellowship program which invested in new, transformative education initiatives. Previously, he was a Teach for America director, managing a team of recruiters across the Midwest. Herrel started his career as a government and economics teacher in Charlotte, North Carolina.
In 2012, he was named one of Forbes Magazine’s “30 under 30” in education. He is a graduate of the College of William & Mary with a bachelor’s degree in economics and public policy. Herrel lives in downtown Cincinnati near his brother, sister-in-law, niece and nephew.
